Health, vision, and dental insurance through The UC Postdoctoral Scholar Benefits Plan (PSBP) administered by Gallagher Benefits Services is available for postdoctoral scholars with full time appointments.

Additional Insurance
Postdoctoral Scholars with full time appointments are automatically enrolled in Life and AD&D insurance, short-term disability insurance, and worker’s compensation. Medical evacuation and repatriation benefits that meet J Visa Program requirements are automatically covered for international postdocs and their dependents. Long-term disability insurance is also available through the UC Postdoctoral Scholar Benefits Plan (PSBP).

Leaves & Time Off
Postdoctoral Scholars are eligible for paid Personal Time Off (PTO) and Sick Leave. Other leaves such as FMLA/CFRA, Parental, Pregnancy, and/or Bereavement may be paid of unpaid.

Health & Wellness
Postdocs are eligible to access counseling services offered by theFaculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP). In partnership with FSAP, OPSA also offers annual Postdoc Health & Wellness workshops. For postdocs with Health insurance through the UC Postdoctoral Scholar Benefits Plan (PSBP), Health Net offers a variety of programs that will assist you with maintaining both your, and your family’s, health.

Childcare Reimbursement & Dependent Care Programs

Taxability of Salary & Benefits
Because of their status as non-degree candidates, income received by a Postdoctoral Scholar is considered fully taxable by the federal and state tax boards.
